Protect yourself from disasters:
Take responsibility for risk reduction

JICA Partnership Program 2017-2023

Disaster Awareness Project for Large-scale Natural Disaster Caused by Global Environmental Changes in Mongolia

Project needs

Western Mongolia is considered to be at higher risk of natural disasters owing to global warming and earthquakes. Therefore, it is essential to raise awareness through collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), local governments, schools, and universities so that residents are well informed on disasters and carry out DRR activities.

This project has developed good practices for citizen-led disaster risk reduction (DRR) activities in Khovd, the central city of western Mongolia. To expand these practices nationwide, the second phase, “Project for Sustainable Civic Activities and Education for Disaster Risk Reduction in Mongolia 2025-2027,” was launched in 2025.
